Melamine

Melamine is a hard thermoset plastic, moulded under heat into a dense surface that resists scratching far better than the softer plastics used for disposable tableware. It belongs where ceramic is a liability rather than a luxury: terraces, camper vans, poolsides and picnic tables. It has the weight and finish of proper tableware without the risk.
