Polypropylene

Polypropylene, often shortened to PP, is the plastic fibre that made outdoor rugs practical. It absorbs almost no water, so it does not hold damp, stain the way natural fibres do, or take days to dry after rain. Woven tightly the fibre stays soft enough to sit on, so a PP rug furnishes a terrace rather than guarding a door.

  • Hydrophobic fibre: absorbs almost no water, so it resists mould and staining
  • Colourfast under UV, holding its colour outdoors season after season
  • Lighter than wool or cotton for the same density of weave
  • Machine-washable at low temperatures where a natural-fibre rug would need dry cleaning
  • Softer underfoot than older generations of outdoor plastic weave, when woven tightly

Care

Shake out loose dirt, wipe with a damp cloth, or rinse with a hose and air dry flat. Hand wash at 20°C for the longest life.

Shake out loose dirt, wipe with a damp cloth, or rinse it with a hose and let it air dry flat. For a deeper clean, hand wash at 20°C.
