- Trim the wick before each burn
- Melt to the edge on the first burn
- Keep out of drafts
- Never leave unattended
Always follow the care label, product page and instructions supplied by the maker. Where these differ from this general guide, the product-specific instructions take precedence.
Before lighting
- Place the candle on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, shelves, open windows and anything that can catch fire.
- Before every burn, trim a cotton wick to approximately 5 mm. For a wood wick, remove the loose char and follow the maker’s recommended length.
Burning
- During the first burn, allow the melt pool to travel close to the edge of the vessel. This helps prevent a narrow tunnel forming around the wick.
- Keep each burn within the maximum burn time on the label. A very deep melt pool can overheat the vessel and make the wick unstable.
- If the wick shifts while the wax is liquid, extinguish the flame and allow the candle to cool rather than touching it.
After burning
- After extinguishing, let the wax cool and become completely solid before moving or relighting the candle.
- Keep the wax free from matches, wick trimmings and dust.
- When the vessel is cool, wipe the outside with a soft dry cloth.
Avoid
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, even for a short time.
- Keep away from children, pets, drafts and flammable objects.
- Do not burn to the very bottom. Stop when the minimum wax depth on the label remains.
- Do not reuse the vessel for food or drink unless the maker explicitly confirms that it is suitable.
