Concrete

Concrete is cement, sand and water cast into a mould and left to cure, producing a dense, matte, mineral surface entirely unlike glazed ceramic. In the SantHome range it appears in cast decor pieces, where the material’s raw, sculptural weight is the point, not a flaw to disguise.

  • Cast, not fired: poured as a wet mix and cured chemically over roughly 28 days, unlike ceramic, which is fired in a kiln
  • Naturally porous: absorbs liquids and stains if left unsealed, so spills need a prompt wipe
  • Heavy for its size, giving cast pieces real weight and a stable base
  • Colour variation is normal: minor shade differences and small air pockets come from the pour itself, not a defect
  • Develops a matte patina over time rather than a glaze finish

Care

Dust regularly with a dry or barely damp cloth, and wipe spills promptly since unsealed concrete can absorb liquid. Keep it away from prolonged wet contact and avoid abrasive cleaners, which can scratch the surface.
