Vegetable wax

Vegetable wax is a candle base made from one or more plant-derived waxes. Blends are formulated to balance melt point, fragrance release, vessel adhesion and wick performance.

Properties

What it is. The term describes the origin of the wax family, not one fixed recipe. Different vegetable blends behave differently, and the maker's burn instructions remain essential.

Why we choose it. We choose vegetable-wax candles for their tactile finish, fragrance performance and natural place within a collection centred on considered daily rituals.

Look and feel. Soft, opaque and smooth when cool, with a clear melt pool when lit.

Where it appears. Hand-poured vegetable-wax scented candles.

Natural character. Small changes in colour, surface texture or adhesion to the glass can occur with temperature and do not necessarily affect the burn.

Care

Trim the wick, keep the wax clean and follow maximum burn time. Allow the vessel to cool fully between burns.

Good to know. Vegetable wax describes where the wax comes from. On its own it is not a guarantee of biodegradability, vegan formulation or a specific ingredient.

Vegetable wax FAQs

Is vegetable wax better for the environment than regular candles?

Biodegradable grades break down naturally rather than persisting, unlike a petroleum-based paraffin candle. It also burns cleanly, without the black soot paraffin can leave.

Why does my vegetable wax candle smell weaker than expected?

A weak scent usually means the melt pool has not spread across the full surface yet. Let the first burn run until it reaches the edge of the jar.
